rPet fibers and eco-responsible fabrics

Small, slightly insignificant object that may not tell you much, but which is very representative of the mission we have given ourselves. A biodegradable “tag” clip. Not another plastic that will “again” end up in water! Yay!

We consider that every little gesture counts and in the development of Couture & Violette Textiles we put great effort into it. It is time to give ourselves the means to respect our environment a little more. From fabrics to packaging, we favor recycled and recyclable materials, and even biodegradable ones when possible.

This is why only ecologically responsible and reasonable fibers have been chosen.

To learn more about rPet:

rPet is the term for material made from recycled particles of the super common plastic PET. PET is in everything, everything, but especially in all disposable plastic items such as plastic bottles as well as several types of food and pharmaceutical packaging, for example. This therefore makes PET the most widely used plastic.

The recycling of this material is almost infinite and, when done well, can recreate items of equal quality.

We now know that using plastic in our lives is not the most environmentally friendly way to take care of our environment but since it is already present we must learn to produce less of it (ideally not at all) and recover the one already existing.

This is where rPet fibers come into play. Finding a new life for this already manufactured product is definitely a step in the right direction. We have therefore chosen to use these fibers for the production of our exclusive fabric collections. Fabrics made of rPet fibers are available in different finishes, textures, thicknesses and mostly stretchy to very stretchy and are therefore ideal for beautiful and comfortable (soft) clothing but also for specialized clothing of the athletic and competitive sport type.

To learn a little more about eco-friendly rayon:

We must start by understanding that there is no fabric that can be considered to have a zero footprint in terms of the ecological cost of production. NONE. What you need to find are the most environmentally responsible options. Bamboo, hemp, fair-source organic cotton, tencel, lyocell and modal are some of these options.

There is a lot of misinformation circulating in online discussion groups regarding the manufacturing processes of eco-friendly fibers like bamboo, hemp, cotton, tencel, lyocell, and modal. Oeko-tex 100 certified and TENCEL™ registered fabrics. Many believe, wrongly, that these are fabrics that are not ecological by their mechanical and "chemical" process. However, these are new technologies that have been developed to help the textile industry and reduce the impact on the environment.
It may seem less complex to cultivate and harvest cotton, beat it, spin it and weave it and then dye it, however these processes are not more ecological and have a high human cost in less privileged countries. The new fibers are produced with supervised processes, cost much less water in the production of the plant, and the creation of the fiber but especially in terms of the human cost of the harvest. They are therefore globally standardized under certain certifications such as Oeko-tex 100 among others.

What is TENCEL™:
TENCEL™ has earned an enviable reputation for its environmentally friendly closed-loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into celluloses with a process that is highly resource efficient and has low environmental impact. Their solvent spinning process recycles all used water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of over 99%. Consumers can therefore be assured that their choices do not contribute to a negative impact on the environment.
